John Reed Racing Tuned Lamborghini hits 250.1 MPH in the Texas Mile!

Texas Mile – March 25th -28th

The running of the first Texas Mile of 2010 is past and the dust has settled to reveal a new king of the mile! Richard Holt drove his Underground Racing built/John Reed Racing tuned Lamborghini Gallardo SL EGear to a new Texas Mile record of 250.1mph. The record and the win did not come easily. Tommy Bahn started out in his Supra pushing SW out of the #1 spot he has held for quite a while, with a 247.7mph on Friday. Nothing much happened on Saturday as we played with different turbo combinations and the Supra guys were also working on putting down the massive power it takes to run these times. Sunday came and Richard threw down a 249.0mph run, but that was immediately followed by a 249.7mph run from Ray Hofman in his beautiful Ford GT twin turbo. Richard pulled his Gallardo up to the line one more time and promised to bring back 250mph and he did just that. The conditions were a bit tricky with a variable wind that was making the cars a handful on the top end but he held on to reset the record and be the first car to go 250mph at the Texas Mile.

Jonah Yokubaitis did an awesome job driving his Underground Racing built/John Reed Racing tuned Lamborghini Gallardo and netted himself a personal best 240.0mph run on Sunday, even after lifting a bit to keep the car tracking straight. A small charging system issue aborted our final run of the day Sunday and judging from his half mile speed he would have been a solid record contender and put in strong drives all weekend even as we threw different turbo/setup combinations at him in the never ending attempt to go faster. Look for Jonah to debut his monster Underground Racing LP560 TT in Miami in one month! It will benefit from all the data we have gleaned from this event and he is very motivated to take that record home with him.

Frank Volk drove his 2006 UGR TT Viper to 215mph on 17psi boost before a turbocharger failure ended his weekend. It was his first time ever racing the car, so hats off to him for doing such a great job and getting 200mph club on his first pass!

Richard made one pass in his 2008 UGR TT Dodge Viper and lost the transmission on the 5-6 shift at 203mph. The transmission was bone stock, so look for that car to come back with a better gearbox soon!

Congrats to Cody Phillips, who went 231mph in his Toyota Supra (his first mile event). We were pleased to be able to assist in your being there, and look forward to seeing his Supra go faster at the next event as he perfects the setup!

A special thanks to MoTeC Systems USA, for providing a MoTeC VCS (video capture system) for use at this event. All the cars were powered by MoTeC engine management systems installed/tuned by John Reed Racing and they performed flawlessly the entire event.

Also a big thank you to Injector Dynamics/T1 Race Development for providing high quality ID1000 and ID2000 injectors used in all the cars. Pushing the limits requires parts and data you can trust and the only injector we recommend/trust is Injector Dynamics.

See you guys in Miami in one month!
