PSCA Street Car Super Nationals at The Strip in Las Vegas, Nevada

We made the trip down to SCSN 5 to support two customers: Dana Westover, of Virtual Works Racing and Jeff Wilson of Jaws Gear and Axle in their Toyota Supras entered in Limited Street class. Both cars are running MoTeC engine management systems tuned by John Reed Racing.

Virtual Works Mk4 Supra: Due to a turbo failure prior to the event, we were only able to get two test passes in on this completely new setup leading up to the event. We made one pass during test and tune on Thursday, and ran 8.55@165mph! Needless to say we were all extremely pleased with the number the car threw down and that was our only test hit for the night. Qualifying started Friday, and we went #1 with a 8.43@165 after working on our launch control a bit. We backed that up with an 8.41@165 to close out the first day of qualifying on the top of the pack. We maintained that position through day 2, working on our launch control a bit but otherwise running 8.4-8.5 range even while testing some new strategies. We began Sunday’s eliminations with a bye run, 8.47@156 lifting early. Second round was a win with a 8.46@154 again lifting a tad early. Semi-finals were up and we debated changing the car as the air cooled but the night before in similar conditions it was perfect so we left well enough alone. Unfortunately the car spun bad on the launch, and we were eliminated. Overall everyone was ecstatic to not only have a trouble free outing with the new setup, but to also put up class record ET and MPH with no testing was simply amazing. Everyone is already looking forward to running with this class next year! Thanks again to the Dana, Ben and the rest of the Virtual Works crew for having us be a part of their program for the first time at this event, and we look forward to next year!

Jaws Gear and Axle Mk3 Supra: This was sort of a last hurrah for an old friend, a faithful blue Mk3 Supra that has evolved over the past couple of years to be a low 9 second street car. The goal was an 8 second pass before retiring the chassis for bigger things next year, but some driver error and ultimately a broken throttle cable cost us the time slip we were looking for. The car did give Jeff a new personal best ET its last time out, 9.137@158mph (best mph to date with the car is 162mph), which qualified us mid pack and we even made it through first round of eliminations before the broken throttle cable ended our event. Jeff has well over 200 passes this year alone on the car/engine, and we look forward to the unveiling of his new ride first of 2010! Thanks again Jeff for always making us a part of your racing ventures!
